one hundred different search criteria. Searches can be saved. You can
browse possible matches based on your own profile without creating a
search.

In theory, the whole world. However Matchmaker has a strong US
bias and fewer members from the rest of the world than other sites
reviewed here. The website is available in five languages.
Safety
You can block messages from other members. There is also an
option to "Become Invisible" so that your user name doesn't appear on the
list of logged in members in your community.
How much can be done for free
You can perform basic searching (including
location based) , and read profiles without registering. Free Trial
Registration allows you to post your own profile, perform very detailed
searching, and even send a limited number of messages to other members -
more if you post a photo on your profile. After seven days you must
subscribe to continue to use the service. Subscriptions can be for 1, 3, 6
or 12 months, with discounts for the longer periods.
Site speed and ease of navigation
Fast. Good simple layout, which will
be familiar to anyone who has used any of Lycos' other services, makes
