Perfect Match - Review
The Bottom Line
Perfect Match
is similar in many ways to eHarmony;
it's a serious site aimed at people looking for a serious relationship
rather than a casual date. In fact the similarity goes even further -
Perfect Match, like its competitor, is based on a personality profiling
system developed by a Ph D. relationship expert (Dr Pepper - yes really!).
They claim 30 years of experience have gone into their profiling,
resulting in fewer but better matches.
By offering detailed
personality profiling as well as more conventional simple searching
methods, Perfect Match appears to be trying to aim at both ends of the
dating market at once - which we think is a mistake. Their profiling is not detailed enough
to be a serious competitor to eHarmony, and their conventional searching is expensive and
so is not going to give the likes of Lavalife or Match.com anything to worry about.
Perfect Match might make a good second site to join up with, but because of its failure to make a clear distinction
as to exactly what it is trying to achieve, we cannot recommend it as a primary choice.

Profile Detail
The personality test is split into two distinct
four-page areas. The first, a Similarity Profiler, asks true/false
questions which gauge your "Romantic Risk", work and motivation ethics,
outlook on life, and appreciation of variety or predictability. The second
section is the Complementary Profiler, which aims to figure out the sort
of personality that matches yours. The results from the test are certainly
interesting, but are nowhere near as detailed as those provided by
eHarmony. That is unsurprising as we have yet to find a personality test
as detailed as eHarmony's.
Aside from the personality test, the general
profile area is all standard fare. Split into four distinct sections, it
covers general physical characteristics, personal values (likes, dislikes
and so on), a Personal Statement (i.e. some free text to talk about
yourself in your own words) and a photos area. A nice feature is the Dealbreakers
section, where you can specify a number of qualities any
potential partner absolutely must have, as well as any attributes
that are strictly out of the question. This is a definite time-saver.
Searching
The main aim of Perfect Match is for them to provide you with excellent matches based on the more detailed than average personality profile. However, they also provide a standard search type function allowing you to conduct your own searches based on location, keyword, and personality factors.
Coverage
The whole world is covered, but it is important to note that there is a strong US bias.
Safety
Communication starts off with two levels of "ice breaker", in the form of some reasonably intelligent questions to put to your potential match. Perfect Match is therefore fairly average when it comes to safety aspects.
How much can be done for free
Personality profiling and the posting of your profile is free. However once you want to initiate contact, you must upgrade to a paid membership. You also need to upgrade if you wish to conduct your own searches. Membership can be purchased in one, three, six, and twelve month chunks, and there are large savings on the longer term plans.
Site speed and ease of navigation
The site is very slick and quick to navigate.
